Book Of Kells

"The Book of Kells" is a 1/12th scale miniature reproduction containing selected pages from The Book of Kells which is a copy of the four Gospels in Latin. It is known for the extraordinary array of pictures, interlaced shapes and oranamental details. It is thought to have been the work of several individual scribes over many years, likely before A.D. 806. The manuscript was held at Kells until 1661 when it was moved to Dublin where it remains as the chief treasure of Trinity College Library. It was once stolen and its golden cover, which was probably encrusted with gems, was ripped from the book, and the remainder was thrown in a ditch. The book was soon recovered, but not before it received some water damage to the front and back pages. Unfortunately, its cover was forever lost. This volume consists of 28 pages not including the colorful end sheets and measures 7/8 inch wide by 1 1/8 inch long by 3/8 inch thick. The pages are printed on presentation quality 24 pound parchment paper. I have tried to fashion a cover worthy of the probable original. The covers are printed on 20 pound acid free 92 brightness 25% cotton bond paper. The covers are made using traditional bookbinding techniques.
